About the Youth Farm

Located on the Chemeketa Community College Campus in northeast Salem, the Youth Farm is a six-acre urban farm and collaborative educational site that cultivates a new generation of leaders by engaging young people in farming for the community. Our nearly year-round programming serves teens ages 13-18 who want to get their hands in the soil, grow food, learn how to run a small farm business, support their community and prepare for college or a career.

We grow more than 40 types of fruits and vegetables using organic methods. The food we harvest is distributed to food pantries, partnering health clinics, youth farmers and their families.

The Youth Farm also serves as a learning space for local school groups and community workshops. Contact us if your group is interested in a field trip or volunteer experience.

Spring Youth Farmer Training

Interested youth are also strongly encouraged to sign up for our spring youth farmer training. The two-day training includes an introduction to farming as well as fun team building activities. The training is a requirement for those interested in applying for the summer farm crew.

Summer Youth Farm Program

The Youth Farm’s summer program offers teens a 10-week opportunity to grow their farming and job skills while working as part of a close-knit team. They also strengthen their service leadership skills by running our Farm Share Rx program and leading volunteer groups. Youth Farmers enjoy farm-fresh lunch each work day, take home generous amounts of produce and are eligible for a stipend for their participation in the summer Youth Farm program.

If you have any questions about the Youth Farm or how to join the spring training or summer programs, please email our team.
