Serving Abundance and Community in Silverton
Eight years in the making, there’s a new home for one of the Food Share’s partner pantries, Silverton Area Community Aid (SACA). To meet the growing need it was experiencing, SACA moved out of the basement of a century-old building near downtown Silverton to a 17,000-square-foot space about a mile away.
“We knew we had the stability to do more for our community, but we wanted to take the time to figure out where the gaps were for families and how we could fill those gaps with more services,” says Sarah DeSantis, SACA’s executive director.
Marion Polk Food Share gathers donations of nutritious food from industry partners and local growers, repacks the items, and distributes them to individuals and families at SACA and 70 other local partners across the Mid-Valley.
Thanks to generous friends like you and deliveries from the Food Share, SACA can provide food assistance, financial aid, and other services to nearly 1,000 people in Silverton each month.
The majority of the SACA space has been renovated to resemble a grocery store. That means that food recipients feel like they’re shopping for the items they need, such as fresh produce, dairy, meat, bread, and nonperishable items.
SACA also acts as a one-stop shop for families in need through its laundry room, case managers, community gathering rooms, and even an activity space for children.
“People are really excited about the new building,” Sarah says. “We have used the new space to change our processes to help move people through quickly and ensure better equity in the distribution of food.”
Your generosity is helping families in Silverton and beyond put food on their tables. Thank you for caring!
