Even during a time of crisis, you’ll be pleased to know that your support is still feeding hungry local children and families. Marion Polk Food Share has adapted to the challenging conditions, and we’re still getting food out to those who need it most. Salem-Keizer School District organized a new drive-thru food pantry project at Four Corners Elementary School, serving hundreds of people.
Some other ways you’ve helped during the pandemic:
Food is moving. Our logistics team continues getting food to our partners. We are constantly fulfilling new requests, such as 200 additional food boxes to Family Building Blocks or fresh produce for United Way’s new home delivery program.
Seniors are eating. A mobile pantry started visiting Englewood housing for low-income seniors and delivered 70 boxes to residents’ doorsteps. Seniors who usually ate lunch at Center 50+ started receiving meals at their homes.
“I started running low on food,” said Robin, who received several meals. “These are good meals, and they made me feel full and warm. God bless you!”
Meals on Wheels is rolling. New requests for Meals on Wheels have more than doubled, because more seniors need help during this time. As long as this crisis lasts, drivers will be knocking on doors, making visual contact, and leaving meals outside to minimize the risk of contact — and delivering more than 600 meals per day.
Helpers are helping. Our local partners — including food industry and restaurant donors — are stepping up to the plate. Individuals like you and local businesses are making donations to make this work possible. Thank you for your ongoing support!
