After serving his country bravely in the Vietnam War, Daniel found new challenges at home. “It took me about 4 years to feel acclimated again,” Daniel reflects, sharing how tough it was to adapt to civilian life. Many veterans face these struggles, including dealing with economic instability and food insecurity.

“I’m low income and sometimes I struggle to make the rent,” he shares. He also finds that food stamps don’t always cover his needs. “I get food stamps, but it isn’t always enough.” According to a study by the RAND Organization, an estimated 1.4 million veterans experience food insecurity.

The study identified vulnerable groups including low-income veterans and those suffering from depression or post-traumatic stress disorders (RAND Organization, 2022).

Managing a fixed income often means navigating a tightrope of financial pressures. For Daniel and many like him, living with the anxiety of not being able to afford an emergency is a constant worry.

Thanks to our dedicated staff, passionate volunteers and generous supporters like you, Daniel found help with the Meals on Wheels program.

Together we’re delivering nutritious meals to his doorstep and providing a wellness check, allowing him to live a healthy and independent life. “I called and the next week I was getting Meals on Wheels. It helps a lot,” he explains, thankful for the food and support the program provides.

Every donation to Marion Polk Food Share ensures that veterans like Daniel receive not only the food they need but also the respect and care they deserve. Your generosity fuels programs that do more than feed our hungry neighbors—they nurture their spirits
