Sunnyslope Community Garden Gets A New Fence
The garden is located on the 4200 block of Liberty Road South near the intersection of Liberty and Mize Road South on City of Salem property. It is coming together through the cooperative efforts of South Salem Connect, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sunnyslope Neighborhood Association, Erick Peterson of Carlson Veit Architects PC, volunteers from the Sigma Chi Fraternity of Willamette University, City of Salem Parks Department and Marion Polk Food Share.
So far, 18 raised beds have been installed, a circular herb bed has been mulched, a garden shed was donated by Jorden Pargeter, and a 100-foot fence was installed at the front of the property.
The Marion Polk Food Share Facility Team installed the fence and gate to protect children from busy Liberty Road traffic, provide a visual/sound barrier to traffic, and provide trellis support for vining plants.
The Parks Department is working on providing water to the site, however, additional funds are being sought to complete irrigation infrastructure.
