Get to Know Some of the Farmers From Farm to Table
Marion Polk Food Share’s Farm to Table Dinner and Auction, on Saturday, July 9, is a celebration of local food. The event will take place at the Oregon Garden and the menu will showcase the finest offerings from local farms with expertly selected local wine pairings. Get to know some of the farmers who are participating in the event.
John Zielinski and his brothers are fourth generation farmers in the Willamette Valley. E.Z. Orchards has been growing apples since the 1920s, but it has recently become renowned for their cidre. The farm also features acres of apples, pears, peaches and hazelnuts orchards, as well as a homey farm market and shortcake stand.
King Fresh Produce is nestled in the fertile prairie between Salem and Silverton. As third and fourth generation farmers, Joanne and her daughters Kristin and Ashley, grow a variety of fruit, vegetables and hazelnuts.
The Ruef family took a chance in 1999 by planting rice in a wet, swampy portion of land near Mt. Angel. They are now one of a few farms in the Willamette Valley to grow and process wild rice.
Located in Mt. Angel, Lonely Lane Farms is a family-owned and operated third generation farm. Founded in 1939, the farm remains committed responsible farming practices raising natural beef and pork.
